Could you get out of your solar contract?

Question 1 of 5

Were you lied to or misled in any way during the solar sales process?

Free, no obligation. Solar Exit Crew is not a law firm. Results depend on your contract and state and are not guaranteed.

Short answer

You may be able to get out of a solar contract, but the path depends on when you signed and how it is financed. A contract signed in the last few days can often be cancelled in writing under federal and state cooling-off rules. Older contracts usually mean a buyout, transfer, payoff or a claim that the sale was misrepresented.

How a free review works

  1. Answer four questions. How the sale started, whether you lease or own, and whether you were misled.
  2. A specialist reaches out. Our partner, an independent solar exit company, reviews your contract details for free.
  3. You decide. They explain which options may fit and what they charge. You are never obligated to sign anything.

Quick answers

Can I cancel a solar contract after signing?

Often yes, if you act fast. When a solar contract is signed at your home, the FTC Cooling-Off Rule generally gives you until midnight of the third business day to cancel in writing, and several states give more time. See cancellation periods by state.

What if the cancellation window has passed?

You still have options, but they depend on your contract. A lease or PPA may allow a buyout or a transfer to a home buyer, a loan can be paid off or refinanced, and a sale built on false statements may support a complaint or a claim. Our guide to every way out compares them.

Is the 30% federal solar tax credit still available?

Not for systems you own that were installed after 2025. Under 26 U.S.C. 25D as amended in July 2025, the residential clean energy credit does not apply to expenditures made after December 31, 2025, and the IRS treats an expenditure as made when installation is completed.

Do I have to pay for the review?

No. The review is free and there is no obligation. If you later hire the exit company, ask them about their fees and potentially refundable amounts in writing before you sign.

Are you a law firm?

No. Solar Exit Crew is a consumer information and referral service. We do not give legal advice. For advice on your contract, talk to a licensed attorney in your state.
